Karol Szymanowski


Poland's leading jazz vibraphonist, composer and arranger, and an experienced teacher. He studied instrumental music at Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, and jazz and light music at the Katowice Academy of Music, from which he graduated with honnours. He is the winner of a number of polish and european jazz music competition.
He performs solo as well as with a number of bands and ensembles. His original six-mallets technique for vibraphone has made it possible to exploit the potential of the instrument in music genres otherwie inaccessible to it.

Karol frequently performs in small ensembles such as duets and trios which enable him to present the novel aspects of playinf with six mallets, particulary accompaniment.
He is the originator of the range of the Vibraphone by the lowest octave of the marimba, which owing to his cooperation with Bergerault, resulted in creating a new instrument, the Bass Vibe.
Besides his regular teaching pratice at the Feliks Nowowoejski Academy of Music in Bygoszcz, Karol conducts vibraphone traning sessions and workshops at major Polish and foreign jazz festivals ans courses in percussion music.
